How long have you been shooting and when did you go pro?

I have been shooting since 2013, went pro in 2015.

What body/bodies do you use?

I use Nikon D750 and D5200 bodies

What’s your favourite lens and why?

My go-to lens is the 50mm f/1.8 because it has a great standard field of view, it is remarkably sharp for detailed images, very light in nature and great autofocus in low light conditions.

What’s in your camera bag for a standard shoot?

For a standard shoot, my camera bag contains the camera body, 18-55mm, 55-200mm, 70-300mm and 50mm lenses, lens hoods, two camera batteries, two Speedlights and a trigger. I also carry a 32GB and 8GB SD card and lens cleaner.

What is your favourite place in Kenya to take pictures?

I love shooting at the Coastal beaches of Kwale and Mombasa Counties and the streets of Nairobi.

What is the most challenging shoot you’ve been on to date and how did you get the shot?

My most challenging shoot was one in which I shot a conceptually blind couple (models) in the ocean, with the water almost up to their neck levels. Directing them and finding firm ground in the water, while being careful not to fall over and destroy my camera, was very challenging.

What do you love about being a professional photographer?

Being a professional photographer makes me view things in a whole different dimension and perspective. I have also become more responsible and more skilful with photography technicalities and marketing.

How do you set yourself apart from competitors?

I have set apart from my competitors by indulging my clients with very creative sessions, and providing extra services for their image sessions at no cost, including make up art, outfits for wardrobe changes and location scouting for perfect image venues. I provide mounting and framing services as well.

What are your top tips for photographers looking to develop skills in your specialty(ies)?

Be very patient with your skills. You should take time to improve your skills before approaching a potential client. Do a lot of homework and research as part of your pre-production process.
